New to Hockey?

Brand new to the sport of hockey? Want to learn more? Unsure of the basics? Confused by everything? Tired of me asking you questions? Here’s a good place to start if you’d like a quick primer on the sport. Within this section of the site, there are three main features:

  • Common Terms
Here you will find a glossary of some words you’re bound to hear eventually (and some constantly) while reading, viewing, or discussing hockey.
  • Common Penalties
Don’t know why your favorite player keeps on getting sent to the penalty box? Find out what some of the most common penalties are, amd learn that “tripping” in hockey actually has nothing to do with hallucinogenics.
  • Basics of the Game
How does the regular season work? Who gets into the playoffs? What the hell is icing? Here’s a quick introduction to the game.

Also, keep in mind that our blog writers will occasionally post articles that relate to hockey-newbies, so you should also check out the New to Hockey blog category for more information.

I’d also reccomend checking out the History category (contributed to primarily by our friend Bryan), as this will helo give you a good background of the sport.
